A Centenary History was produced in 1983 to commemorate one hundred years of local government in the district. This history book explores how the character of every local community is shaped by its past, chronicling the events, personalities, institutions and natural features that together formed present-day Concord.

Beginning before European settlement, when the area was frequented by nomadic Aboriginal tribes, the narrative follows the establishment of early colonial settlement and the rapid development that resulted from the westward spread of Sydney’s metropolitan area.

The book examines the many influences that shaped Concord, including its strategic riverside location, powerful local families, the establishment of major industries, and the effects of significant events such as wars and the Great Depression. It also explores changing transportation patterns and their role in the district’s evolution, creating a rich and engaging account of the area’s development.
